An art meme appropriated from Mr Douglas Noble, and which I have done simply to feel better about the lack of comic work I managed this year…
January: The Whale House. A wraparound cover sketch I provided for series artist Peet Clack to work from. A slow start to the year.
February: Doctor Who. The tenth Doctor on a birthday card for my son.
March: The Shadow. A trading card sketch (2.5” by 3.5”), done for swaps with other artists. This one went to Shadow art collector Alan Henderson.
April: Flesh. Character designs for ‘Claw’ Carver and Earl Reagan, done for Will Kirkby’s 2000AD fanzine NU Earth. The deadline was too tight for me to manage all five pages, so I switched to…
May: Slaine. From my one-page story in NU Earth. There’s talk of a NU Earth 2, so I hope to get the Flesh story in that.
June: Boba Fett. Done as an ink sketch during the Bristol SPExpo convention, for a kid wearing a Boba Fett T-shirt. I was hoping he’d come round again so that I could surprise him with it, but I didn’t see him again. I later finished it off with grey marker.
July: Pictures Made of Light. A character from a 16-page comic that I’ve been working on for a million years. The end of 2010 was far busier than the start, so this has been delayed. Should have it done for the London Comic & Small Press Expo in March.
August: West. A sketch of Jerusalem West done for a mail order customer who bought one of everything. Also good practice for the story I’m drawing in West: Stray Bullets.
September: Attic. A 2-page strip written by Jason Cobley for his Bulldog Clips collection. This was shaded in pencil, and was a bugger to work with. Can’t say that I’m unhappy with the results, though.
October: Charlie Chaplin. From a comic review I did (with some help from my daughter) of the DVD of City Lights, done for Electric Sheep magazine.
November: Black Dog Rib. A 3-page strip (based on my Elephant Words short story) published in Rob Jackson’s Gin Palace 2 anthology, and about which Optical Sloth reviewer Kevin Bramer said, “…a story about a black dog rib that flew right over my head…”
December: Martian War Machine. Drawn for my daughter after we’d greatly enjoyed seeing Jeff Wayne’s musical of War of the Worlds Alive on Stage.

The War of the Worlds, by Andrew Cheverton.
I went to see Jeff Wayne’s musical version of War of the Worlds: Alive on Stage with my wife and daughter a couple of weeks ago. It was absolutely brilliant. Even Jason Donovan and some bird from Atomic Kitten were great. Afterwards, my daughter asked for a drawing of a Martian War Machine. This is it, coloured (something I’ve never really attempted with my work before). The colouring scheme is greatly inspired by Jose Villarrubia’s work on Paul Pope’s Batman: Year 100.
